About Me
I am a software developer who specializes in developer productivity and build/release engineering (also sometimes referred to as “DevOps”). I have decades of experience helping organizations ranging from large telecommunications companies to small start-ups produce higher-quality software with less stress. I help make software teams more productive by reducing friction and pain through automation and improved workflow. Smoother, more reliable processes lead to releases that are efficient, consistent, and repeatable. Development teams gain confidence in the quality of their releases and know that should something go wrong, it can be corrected quickly and easily. My philosophy is described in more detail elsewhere.
My first job out of college was working in the integration and release organization of a large telecom company. I was introduced to all the “meta” software (such as build tools and automation) that underlies the creation of an actual software product. I also discovered how clever applications of technology to the development process itself can reap huge rewards in the form of increased developer productivity, pain reduction, and early bug detection (and correction). From that point onwards in my career as a developer, I always tried to use my skills not just to make good software, but to make making good software easier. I seem to have a knack for this sort of work… which is just as well, since someone’s got to do it.
I am also a Texan made in Japan – which means I enjoy Sapporo-style miso ramen with a generous slice of pecan-smoked brisket.
I am not actually the Build Buddha.
